Working with me

My approach
I trained as a person-centred counsellor and psychotherapist. The main concepts that underpin person-centred therapy are the belief that each individual has the resources within themselves to fulfil their potential and the therapist acts as a facilitator to support the client in accessing the resources within themselves to achieve personal growth.
Another core aspect of person-centred therapy is the belief that the relationship between therapist and client is in itself healing. The idea is that if the therapist can offer the clients the right ‘conditions’, then the client will experience safety and security which will allow them to begin to accept their authentic self without condition.
The right ‘conditions’ for successful therapy are: empathy, unconditional positive regard and congruence.
I believe that early childhood experiences play a significant role in how we relate to ourselves and others into adulthood. In therapy, we will explore your early experiences to gain understanding and insight into what might be driving your current relationship patterns.
This belief underpins psychodynamic theory, which influences my philosophy and approach.

FAQs
Fill out my contact form here. I’ll then get in touch with you usually within 48 hours to have a free 15 minute consultation. This will involve a brief chat about what brings you to therapy and your goals. If I feel that I can help and you are happy to work with me, we can then set up our first session.
Sessions are £50 for 50 minutes.
In our first session we will make an informal agreement for an initial commitment to therapy. However, this will be for therapeutic purposes only and will not be binding. You need only provide 48 hours notice to cancel any session without charge.
This is a very common concern for most people before they start therapy. This is totally normal and understandable, it can feel difficult to know where to start or how to succinctly articulate what brings you to therapy. We will start your first session with an assessment which will be structured around getting an understanding of what brings you to therapy and more detail about your background and history. This then gives us some pointers for where to take therapy for future sessions and hopefully takes the pressure of knowing where to start.
